The cold desert of Spiti Valley is one of the most fascinating and mesmerizing places in India. Kanamo peak is known as the white lady peak this trek is considered as a difficult trek by some as you need to get acclimatized to the weather. Although it is short, it is one of the best ways to enjoy a 6,000m experience of trekking in India. The Kanamo Peak trek trek opens up much majesty of the mighty Himalayas. In addition to this whole experience is the trekking experience to fascinating Chandratal and camping by the lake. You will be walking through Spiti Valley, fleeting by monasteries and strolling through high hamlets. You will start this exciting trek from Manali and travel to Batal, as you take the route you will catch the sight of verdant Kullu and Manali valleys along the barren terrain of Lahaul and Spiti valley through Rohtang Pass. Though non-technical, the climb does require you to put in efforts. Rewarding you are the great views of faraway Kullu, Kinnaur and Ladakh. Get a chance to soak in the amazing beauty of the region as you continue your trek.  Once you reach the summit you will get a 360-degree view of the whole region which is very fascinating.

Detailed Itinerary

Kanamo Peak Trek Itinerary

Day 1 - Drive Manali  to Kaza

Drive from early morning Manali, towards Batal via Rohtang pass on the Manali-Leh Highway. From Gramphu, take a diversion towards the Gramphu – Batal – Kaza road. From Batal the route winds through the real Spiti Valley. Guesthouse/ hotel will be arranged for you at Kaza(Altitude 12,470 ft)

 

Day 2 - Kaza to Kibber 

The day starts with a short one-hour drive to Kibber (Altitude - 14, 010 ft). This small village located in the midst of a narrow valley is touted as one of the highest inhabited villages in the world . Post lunch at the homestay, your first acclimatization walk will get underway at around 4 pm. After your acclimatization walk, you can explore the Kibber village to get a sense of their culture and habitat. Overnight at Kibber


Day 3 - Acclimatization day at Kibber

Kibber situated at an altitude of 14,108 ft. Today is an acclimatization day at Kibber. Visit nearby places and go on acclimatization walks. Overnight in guesthouse


Day 4 - Kibber to Kanamo Base Camp

Today we start the trek from Kibber towards Kanamo base camp (Altitude- 15,748 ft). The trek a difficult one with mostly steep ascents. It would take about 6 to 7 hours to reach base camp. Carry sufficient water as there re no water points available en route. Initially, soon after leaving the village, you will cross numerous fields growing green peas. The last 2 hours of the trek are particularly picturesque with smaller varieties of Brahma Kamal and multiple types of flowers strewn all across. Overnight at basecamp


Day 5 - Base Camp to Kanamo Peak

Today is the day we reach the top of a 6000 m peak. The summit attempt starts during the early morning hours. We cross the first shoulder in the mountain at the break of dawn. The trail is not too difficult, we cross 2 shoulders in the mountain and then climb up scree slopes towards the ridge leading to the summit. Depending on the month we will catch some snow at the top. One will need to walk a bit carefully towards the top and should be in close proximity to the guides. The climb is rewarded with astounding 360° views. From the summit we see the Parang La pass leading to Ladakh, Pin Parvati pass leading to Kullu valley, ranges of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and the underlying valleys. Depending upon the weather we spend some time at the top and then start retracing our steps carefully. Back to basecamp and rest. Overnight in tents.

 

Day 6 - Kanamo Base camp to Kaza via Kibber

We retrace our steps towards Kibber and from there drive a short distance to our guesthouse/ hotel in Kaza. Enjoy a hot shower and spend the rest of the day exploring Kaza. After lunch you can plan for rafting on the spiti river. It is a great experience where you not only enjoy the excitement of negotiating rapids but also get to appreciate the landscape from a totally different perspective. This stretch of rafting is suitable for beginners and non-swimmers. Evening we will have a celebratory dinner at the hotel. Overnight in the hotel.

 

Day 7 - Drive to Manali

Today you will be driving back to Manali starting very early in the morning. Your expected time to reach Manali is around 7 pm. You can plan your onward journey any time after 8 pm.

Registering for Kanamo Peak Trek

Eligibility: Is this Trek suitable for me?

Kanamo Peak Trek is graded as a challenging climb. This trek helps climbers to test their skills and improve their endurance. Such high-altitude climbs should not be underestimated, and climbers should approach the trek with proper training. We highly suggest that you start working on your fitness two months before the climb. Previous trekking experience is mandatory to sign up for the Kanamo Peak Trek. Excellent physical endurance, focus, and determination are required to complete the Kanamo Peak Trek successfully. Happy Climbing!

 

Offloading

Protrek Adventure highly recommends the participants to carry their personal backpacks by themselves. However, in case you are absolutely not able to carry the same and would like to offload, then you have to inform us during the booking process and pre-book the offloading. Each bag should not weigh more than 10 kgs. The bag should be of rucksack style only. Duffle bags would not be accepted for offloading. Kindly inform our booking office if you will need to offload your personal backpack for the Kanamo Peak trek.

Backpack Offloading Charges:

  • INR 900/- if you make an online payment at the time of trip booking

  • INR 1100/- if you inform us after reaching Manali

This also enables you to get a good deal on your to and fro flight tickets and organizing your trip efficiently. A booking confirmation will be sent by e-mail along with the payment instructions and other trip details. Cancellation Policy

Cancellations are processed only by e-mail and refunds for the same are as follows:

 

Cancellations prior to 30 days from the start of the trek—90% refund
Cancellation between 30 days and 20 days to the start of the trek—50% refund
Cancellation less than 20 days to the start of the trek—no cash refund

By Air

Bhuntar airport located at a distance of 10 km from Manali. Flights are available from all the major cities. Taxi services are available from Bhuntar to Manali. Bhuntar is well connected to Delhi, Chandigarh by air

 

By Road

The Himachal Pradesh state bus service is ace and one can get frequent buses from the region to different parts of the country at reasonable cost. The best and most cost effective way to reach Manali is by road. Roads connect Manali to different places including Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Ambala. There are several private buses as well that connect the hill station with different part of the state

 

Protrek Adventure will arrange a guest house in Kaza on reporting day. Transportation from Manali to Kaza and return is not inclusive.
