OVERVIEW

Mera Peak Expedition

  • Region - Solu Khumbu Region, Nepal

  • Duration - 17 Days

  • Grade - Challenging
  • Max Altitude - 6,476m/21,246ft
  • Best Season - Apr-May & Oct-Nov

Mera Peak elevates 6,476m above the sea level in the Mahalangur section of Himalayas, south of Mount Everest. Categorized as the trekking peaks, it is one of the most popular among its category. Mera Peak is the highest trekking peak in Nepal. Spring and autumn seasons are the best time to trek this mountain.

The standard route from the north involves high-altitude glacier walking. The west and south faces of the peak offer more difficult technical routes. Mera Peak provides the 360-degree panoramic views of 5 world highest mountains over 8000m: Mount Everest (8848m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), Lhotse (8516m), and Cho Oyu (8201m) as well as many other peaks of the Khumbu Region.

For experienced climbers it is a technically straightforward ascent, the main hurdle being proper acclimatization to the high altitude. These reasons make Mera Peak a very popular destination, with many climbers with little or no mountaineering experience. All climbers are recommended to partake in preparative fitness and altitude training before attempting an ascent.

Our carefully devised itinerary allows optimum time for building fitness and acclimatization - key factors that have contributed to our success record. On our trek that leads through the traditional Sherpa villages of the Solu Khumbu and the blue pine and rhododendron forest trails of the Hinku Valley, you appreciate why we have selected this magnificent approach to the base camp. Fully acclimatized we ascend to a high camp just below Mera La and prepare for our attempt on the central summit of Mera Peak. While climbing at this altitude is physically challenging, the ascent is not technically demanding and stunning views of five of the six highest mountains on earth will more than satisfy your aspirations on this fine Himalayan climb.
